Text saved from my soon-to-be-deleted Fotki account. (FOTKI.... KISS MT ASS!!!!)
Once a year we make the trek down to Birmingham to a local hangout that's been around for years. What started out as a local garage in 1944 by the Sanflippo brothers after returning home from the war, was later incorporated in 1946 and became the legacy known as Rocco and Cheater's Speed Shop Inc. In 1954, younger brother Dominic joined the company after returning from the navy. They were friends to all the big names in all types of racing. Many Grand National, now Cup racers, were their customers along with Indy owners and drivers. Lots of drag racers too. They knew how to market and buy parts AND they also had connections to all the manufacturers of the 40's thru the 60's. With this being the case they always had lots of stock. Their motto was "You can't sell from an empty wagon!" In the late 70's, second generation (Rocco and Cheaters' nephew and Dominic's son) Sam took over the company and now he is grooming HIS son Anthony for the helm. They had a machine and fabrication shop in the back of the speed shop and also had a garage up the street from the present location. Bobby aka K9racer has been friends of these guys for many years. Thanks to Bobby, we were allowed to come in and scour over the many, many parts in the 100x100 building. This truly is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences you only hear about or read in magazines. Imagine seeing 250 complete exhaust systems for cars of the 30's,40's and 50's leaning in the back of a speed shop, along with shelf after shelf of brand new stock that hasn't been touched in years. Wheels still brand new in the box stacked everywhere. I could go on and on about what we saw and there's more i've already forgotten than what I can remember. I'll let the pictures do the talking and maybe I can talk Alan into a trip back down there for a more indepth story for the magazine. The history of Rocco and Cheaters has been well documented and is a story that NEEDS to be told.
***UPDATE***
The Rocco and Cheaters' story is in Car Kulture Deluxe #17.

I'm totally excited about having one of my

tragic thing happen to the owner.... but honored to have been part of a
tribute and important message for others who enjoy the hobby! Godspeed

That's what SHE said:
Just had to share this!!! While checking directions for McNamara's Pub, I ran across this gem of a review sent in by some idiot from out of town. Ya know, "Whitedog", if your fries are soft and barely warm - LIKE YOUR COD - WE don't want to here about it. I think you made it very clear the first time, that your food had been sitting out. I'm thinking it was because your anal retentive ass asked for fries... "well done with no salt"... we don't take kindly to smart ass outsiders in these here parts!!! GFY - Whitedog!

All in a day's work!
Over the years, it doesn't matter how many times people have to start crap about me. It doesn't matter how many lies they feel the need to tell. In the end..... they just wish they were me!
Because face it.... I've got the memories.... all they have is hurt feelings.

Some one ALWAYS does this!!!!!!
Kimmie and I took in the Nashville Auto Fest car show today. I've never felt comfortable with indoor shooting so this show is one I usually test out different ideas, settings and such. The thing about shooting anything when there's a crowd involved is that you have no control over said crowd. I wasted over 5 minutes on 3 different vehicles waiting on a lady to figure out how to take pictures with her cell phone. She never could figure out why I was standing there smiling at her. In her mind i'm more than likely a creep. In my mind, though, I'm betting someone who she's never met before got random pictures of old cars. Back to the story at hand, you never know til you get home what surprises lay in the pictures you carefully took while roaming a car show. 9 times out of 10 someone bends over in the background and graces me with a plumber's view. Today I got a totally different little gem i'd love to share with you.
Shot as taken:
Bet you didn't notice the hot babe.... picking her nose!
and here is the final CROPPED version the rest of the public will see:
(btw... while I was worried about Ms Nose Picker, Kimmie thought the green Food Bank sign clashed with the car.... now both are gone)
